Um euch beim festtäglichen Gürtelengerschnallen – vorsorglich oder bereits erzwungen – zu unterstützen, starten wir eine „So einen billigen Fernseher hast du noch nie verschenkt!“-Aktion. Bereits ab 7 Franken kannst du deine Lieben mit einem Voll-Fernseher auf dem Computer überraschen. Soviel kostet es nämlich, für einen Monat Zugang zum De-Luxe-Angebot des Computer-TV-Anbieters Zattoo zu schenken. (3 Monate kosten 15 Franken, und 1 Jahr ist schon für 45 Franken zu haben – also auch das nicht alle Welt.) Nach dem Umbau wird ausgebaut – und zwar unser Nesthäkchen „Zattoo HiQ“.
Für die Intellektuellen unter uns, für Freunde Testosteron-geschwängerter Männersendungen, lasziver Popstars und faszinierend-peinlicher Reality Shows, und für schwule Männer (unter anderem) gibt’s neu die folgenden Sender auf Zattoo HiQ: arte, DMAX, KabelEins, MTV, RTL II und TIMM.
Zugleich starten wir ab sofort ein Spezialangebot für Bindungsscheue, Schwarzfahrer und Serienvernissagenverpfleger: Angst, auf den Knopf zu drücken und dich für noch ein Abo verpflichten? Mit unserem Gratisprobemonatsangebot gibt’s kein Halten mehr. Anmelden und noch heute in die Technikwelten von DMAX oder Tanzkünste von Beyoncé eintauchen.

... und schaltet TIMM, den neuen deutschen Sender für schwule Männer, auf. Der Sender für harte Boys und softe Kerle zeigt internationale Kultserien, Spielfilme und Dokumentationen sowie eigenproduzierte Shows, Nachrichten und Magazine. Und lässt die Frauen unter uns aufatmend erkennen: Auch Männer können komplex, schön und ab und zu zickig sein.

Somos conscientes de que muchos de vosotros tenéis curiosidad por saber qué va a pasar con Zattoo en España en octubre (nosotros también la teníamos y hemos estado trabajando para resolver la duda). Aquí está despejada.
Zattoo Basic
Seguiremos pidiendo a nuestros usuarios el pago de una pequeña cantidad en concepto de suscripción para poder usar Zattoo. “Zattoo Basic”, nuestra oferta básica, en paquetes de 1, 3 o 12 meses, está a tu disposición a partir de tan sólo 1€ por mes. Seguirá siendo posible pagar a través de SMS, pero también mediante tarjeta de crédito y PayPal. Pincha aquí para más información.
Zattoo HiQ
A partir del 7 de octubre presentamos en España nuestra oferta “Zattoo HiQ”. Con “Zattoo HiQ” te ofrecemos 8 canales principales (La 1, La 2, Antena 3, Cuatro, La Sexta, Telecinco, VEO e Interconomía TV) en una mayor resolución, igual que la que tienes en tu tele. Así, no te perderas ni un sólo detalle de los raquetazos de Rafa Nadal o de las operaciones de “Grey’s Anatomy”. “Zattoo HiQ” está disponible en paquetes de 3 o 12 meses, a partir de 1.75€ por mes. ¿Por qué?
¿Por qué seguimos pidiendo el pago en España? Como ya comentamos, transmitir canales de forma legal (lo que incluye pagar por los derechos de copyright) es costoso. Seguimos intentando cubrir los costes mediante publicidad, pero nos está llevando más tiempo de lo esperado (hay crisis...). Así que para que Zattoo sea sostenible en España, tenemos que ser realistas. En otros países la situación es diferente y Zattoo sigue siendo gratis, mientras que en algunos, como España y Dinamarca, se pide una pequeña contribución. Seguimos trabajando para añadir nuevos canales, mejorar la calidad e incrementar el número de anunciantes. Mientras tanto, intentaremos mantener las cuotas de suscripción lo más bajas posible.

You shout - we listen

We do listen to you after all. „If only the channels came in better quality. I would be willing to pay for that!“ Well, we heard and read that a lot (A LOT), so starting today, and for now only in Switzerland, we’re offering you just that. 20 channels in high quality (the same as on your good ol’ TV if you still have one), starting at CHF 3.75 per month. (The basic channels will still be available for free.)
If you’re on Swiss ground, you will see the additional channels in your lineup sometime in the next few days, after being invited to download the newest player version. (We’re doing a phased roll-out in order to catch problems before they affect too many people.) Before you go wild and commit yourself to a lifelong subscription, try out the free HiQ channel (currently Eurosport) to make sure that it actually works on your system. If you like what you see, click on one of the other HiQ channels in the player, and you’ll be taken to a subscription page on our website.
It’s Switzerland for now, but if both interest and feedback are positive, we’ll roll it out to other countries in the next few months.
Please keep the following in mind:
- Try out the free HiQ channel before you purchase a subscription to make sure that these channels work on your system
- You need to have a broadband connection of at least 2 Mbps to get a good transmission quality
- Don't despair if you haven't received an invitation to update the player yet. If you're on Swiss ground, you should get one within the next few days. Just hang in there ...
- How to subscribe: click on a HiQ channel in your lineup. You will be redirected to the payment page.
- Swisscom VDSL subscribers get the HiQ channels for free. More information here
Not to forget: A big virtual hug from the Zattoo team to all those who’ve tested the HiQ channel over the last few days. Your feedback has been immensely helpful to us in finetuning this new offer and getting it ready for the broader public. Supersize Zattoo

Ever wanted to take a closer look at Croatian high jumper and current world champion Blanka Vlašić? Or you're more into Michael Phelps' muscles? No matter what your sexual preferences are, we have something for you. Starting today, we are offering Eurosport at a higher resolution*, as the first of what we call High-Quality (HiQ) channels.
Zattoo HiQ channels are streamed at approximately four times the resolution of our standard-quality channels, offering a level of detail you haven't been able to enjoy so far. Beware however: they do also put more strain on your Internet connection, requiring about 3 times the bandwidth of a standard-quality Zattoo channel. And your 4-year old computer may not be up to the task of displaying that large data stream.
As you've learned by now, at Zattoo we do make our users part of our improvement process. So don't only blame us if the high quality you get is not the high quality you were expecting: let us know (by email or through the player's Send Feedback menu), and we'll do all we can to make it better!

Hace solo un mes te anunciamos que ya teníamos un millón de usuarios en España (el número ya ha aumentado, claro). La verdad es que hemos crecido mucho más de lo que esperábamos. Y la realidad es que a nuestros usuarios españoles les encanta ver la televisión a través de Zattoo. Para que te hagas una idea, la media de uso en España de Zattoo es de 2.5 horas por semana, que es muchísimo.
¡Estamos muy contentos de este éxito espectacular! Peeeeero hacer que Zattoo esté disponible para tal cantidad de usuarios es también un coste altísimo. De hecho, durante los últimos meses hemos realizado importantes inversiones con el fin de mantener o incluso mejorar la calidad de imagen que disfrutas cuando abres el reproductor. A esta inversión se une el coste que representa el pago que realizamos mensualmente a las entidades gestoras de derechos de autor para poder emitir legalmente.
Por estos motivos, te vamos a pedir que colabores con nosotros mediante un pago simbólico para poder seguir viendo Zattoo durante los meses de agosto y septiembre. Así que por el precio aproximado de un café bueno – 2,40 € - podrás ver durante dos meses naturales todos los canales que ofrece Zattoo en España (ahora mismo son 27). El pago es muy simple con SMS e encontrarás más información pinchando en el enlace de abajo.

First off a warning to all allergic to self-praise, disgustingly positive exuberance, and boasting in every form. This blog post may cause hives, distort your view of Zattoo and endanger your long-term relationship with this brilliant and loveable provider of online-TV (oops, there we go already...). But there’s a time to be critical, and there’s a time (such as now) to get drunk be pleased with ourselves and celebrate successes.
Last October we were incredibly proud to welcome the one-millionth user into our Zattoo family. And not even a year later our family has grown threefold. By signing up yesterday at 6:54:37 pm, Thorsten* from Germany** kicked us into this new dimension of viewership scale and reach (welcome, Thorsten*!). But it’s not just the sheer number of registrations that we want to celebrate today. It’s also the fact that our users not only download but also USE Zattoo for MORE THAN 3 hours per week.
Another thing that we’re proud of (I did warn you it would be bad) is the fact that we managed to crank up our services in advance to be ready for EURO 08. The games were streamed on 17 different channels, and 658,000 viewers followed them for a total of 95 million minutes on Zattoo.
Then, in June, eco, the German association of Internet business, found us so exciting that they deemed us worthy of following in Google’s footsteps and awarded us their innovation prize 2008 (Google won two years earlier). We were really thrilled about that, too.
Now we’re gearing up for the next million and getting ready to turn your office PC into an Olympic playfield.

Bakom würdigt Zattoo (endlich)

Ab 1. September muss sich bei der Billag für den Empfang von TV anmelden*, wer „sich bei einer Anbieterin registriert hat, die kostenlos Zugang zu Fernsehprogrammen gewährt.“ Wir sehen uns zwar nicht als weiblich (ist es eigentlich die/der/das Zattoo?), sind aber trotzdem gemeint damit.
Mit der offiziellen Anerkennung durch das Bakom als Schweizer Anbieter von TV-Programmen gehen wir seit heute früh gleich ein gutes Stück aufrechter durch die Gegend. Diese Anerkennung macht uns froh, weil hiermit von offizieller Stelle bestätigt kommt, was wir schon seit einer Weile wussten: dass Zattoo ein verdammt gutes Programm für den Fernsehkonsum bietet.
Im Übrigen sind wir begeisterte Verfechter der Maxime, dass private Daten keine Shareware sind. Da wir nicht verpflichtet sind, die Daten unserer Benutzer der Bakom weiterzuleiten, werden wir sie weiterhin innerhalb unseres eigenen Gärtchens halten.
